patriots day/ boston marathon...

today is the 113th running of the boston marathon. god only knows why people actually like to run, i myself do not, at all. more than 25,000 people are heading out to hopkinton this morning and getting ready for an entire afternoon of running. they will descend to my neighborhood, the back bay, where they will proceed to keep roads closed so the traffic is unbearable and navigating to do my after works errands will be nearly impossible. can you tell i'm bitter about not having this fake holiday (patriots day, which actually commemorates the start of the american revolution in case you didn't know) off? i'm especially annoyed this year because for the first time in a long time i don't have any friends running in it. last year my co-worker and her boyfriend ran it, as well as my sister's good friend from college...at least i had something to cheer for then!

i will say one thing about this time of year in boston...it's good to be a sports fan (even if you happen to be a new yorker at heart). it's an exciting time of year to have the celtics, the bruins and the red sox all playing at once, i know my dad would appreciate such a time too.
