designer love, eric cohler...

fellow hws alumni (and art history major like myself), eric cohler '81, is an interior designer whose style i greatly admire. after leaving hws he pursued his master's degree in historic preservation at the columbia school of architecture and then went on to get his certificate in design from the acclaimed harvard graduate school of design.

there's just something so regal about the rooms he designs. i'm sure it has to do with the way he mixes contemporary materials with classic furniture selections, traditional molding/casings, and his impeccable ability to pair colors. oh, and one thing i absolutely LOVE about him is his the artwork he uses in each of his spaces, they are always showcased so wonderfully...now that's talent!

and how could you not love a designer who says something like this... "salvaged materials are invigorating to me. i'm stimulated by taking objects out of context, like using a bathtub for a planter or a bottle-glass window as a scrim for a room without a view"... cohler once said this during an interview while rummage through harlem's demolition depot... umm hello, he's a 'trash picker' like me!
